The Hellenic Republic honored Michael Dukakis, the most prominent Greek American politician, who was a former Presidential candidate in 1988 and the longest-serving Governor of Massachusetts on Saturday in Boston.
In a moving ceremony organized by the Boston Consulate with the virtual participation of Kostas Vlassis, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Alexandra Papadopoulou, the Ambassador of Greece to the United States, bestowed the “Grand Commander of the Order of Honor” and a diploma signed by the President of the Hellenic Republic upon Governor Dukakis.
In his speech, Vlassis congratulated Dukakis on his years of service in US politics and in Greek community in the USA, as well as for his support in the promotion of Greece’s national rights.
The Deputy Minister also stressed that Dukakis’ overall career in US public life, always keeping his eyes on Greece, was an example to be imitated and a source of inspiration for the younger generations of expatriates.
