In a social media post on Friday, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America thanked the Greek Government for its annual two million euro donation to the Hellenic College Holy Cross in Boston.
The Orthodox Christian College, which includes a seminary and school of theology, is one of the most important Orthodox educational institutions in the Western Hemisphere.
The donation, presented by Greek Ambassador to the US Alexandra Papadopoulou, began as an initiative by former Deputy Minister for Diaspora Greeks Antonis Diamataris to provide annual support to the college.
Papadopoulou presented the donation at a lunch in her and Archbishop Elpidophoros’ honor at the Hellenic College Holy Cross.
In a statement, Archbishop Elpidophoros stated that the donation “is a significant investment of mother Greece to her children in the Diaspora, which shows the spiritual, national, and linguistic ties between us.”
