A spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Ibrahim Kalin spoke out against Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, over past comments made against his boss.

On Sunday, August 16, Kalin took to Twitter in order to express his criticism of the politician, shortly after an old video of Biden had resurfaced, with him elaborating about his dissatisfaction with Turkey and the political dealings of Erdogan across his government.

During the clip itself, the presidential candidate commented that he is “very concerned” about Erdogan’s approach to the Kurds in Turkey, his partial military cooperation with Russia, as well as access to the U.S. airfields in the country, which is a NATO ally.

“What I think we should be doing is taking a very different approach to him now, making it clear that we support opposition leadership,” Joe Biden elaborated during the video clip.

While further adding that Erdogan “has to pay a price,” the presidential candidate also recommended that Washington should help encourage Turkish opposition leaders in order to “be able to take on and defeat Erdogan. Not by a coup, but by the electoral process.”

In the tweet, spokesman Ibrahim Kalin addressed Biden, saying that “The days of ordering Turkey around are over,” while also daring the politician to try to do so and “pay the price.”

The video had initially received a mild response, with Erdogan’s Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, saying how Biden’s comments “reflect games and an interventionist approach towards Turkey,” but has now been currently trending on Twitter in Turkey.
