Former Supreme Governor of AHEPA Michael Manios Passes Away

Past Supreme Governor of AHEPA Michael Manios passed away on Friday, June 26 at the age of eighty-five, having been a 50-year member of the Zeus “88” Chapter of the Greek-American fraternal organization in Warren, OH.

Manios had also served on the AHEPA National Education Foundation for nine years, while volunteering on the Board of Trustees for the organization’s Educational Scholarship Foundation as well.

A statement released by AHEPA Supreme President George G. Horiates says “We are grateful for Brother Mike’s service to his country and to our Order.” He added “He will be remembered as a wonderful and devoted Ahepan, and his warm presence at our national events will be missed. Our deepest sympathies are with the Manios family. May his memory be eternal.”

Manios was born in Weirton, West Virginia on November 28, 1934. He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1952 and gained his Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Kent State University. Manios would later receive his Master’s from Westminster College.

Before beginning his thirty-four-year teaching career, Manios enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve during the Korean War, eventually attaining the rank of Signalman 3rd class.

While in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Vulcan, A.R.5, USS Truckee, A.O.147, and the USS Surgochi A.E.-21 before obtaining an attaining an honorable discharge in 1962.

Manios was a devoted father and grandfather who held his Greek heritage in high regard. He was also the brother of AHEPA Past Supreme President Franklin Manios.

The funeral service took place on Tuesday, June 30, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren, Ohio, with Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the funeral was privately held and limited to immediate family only.

Arrangements were handled by Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel.
