United States President Donald Trump telephoned Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on Sunday to send his good wishes for the celebration of Easter by the Orthodox Christian Church.

According to a statement issued by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, President Trump called Bartholomew at approximately 9 o’clock in the evening local time.

Trump expressed his warmest wishes to the Patriarch himself, who accepted them on behalf of the millions of Orthodox Christians around the world.

Bartholomew thanked the President for his kindness in telephoning him in order to express his wishes, as well as for his interest in the Greek Orthodox Church in America.

It is noted that the two leaders were expected to meet in the United States this May, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, Patriarch Bartholomew decided to reschedule his visit for next year.
