The Hellenic American Women’s Council (HAWC), a nonpartisan, nationwide network whose mission is to identify and harness the tremendous talents of Hellenic American women, will hold its 26th annual conference in Chicago, Illinois.
The conference, to be held on November 1-2, 2019 at the Union League Club of Chicago, will have the theme “Learn, Laugh, Thrive – A Fulfilling Life.” The prestigious Aristeon Award will also be presented to the conference honoree and keynote speaker, Maria Pappas, the longtime Treasurer of Cook County, Illinois.
Pappas will receive the award in recognition of her many life achievements, which include serving as the Cook County Treasurer since 1998. Prior to that, she also served two terms on the Cook County Board of Commissioners. Pappas will share her personal reflections on her life and career with conference attendees.
The HAWC regions to be represented at the conference include Washington DC/Capitol, Great Lakes, New England, Pacific, Southeast, and Tri-State. Women of Hellenic descent from anywhere throughout the United States are welcome to attend the conference.
The 26th HAWCC Conference will open with a welcome reception at the Cite’ Restaurant at the top of the Lake Point Tower on Friday, November 1, hosted by Dame Dr. Evangeline Gouletas. The conference continues on Saturday at the Union League Club, located at 65 W. Jackson Boulevard in Chicago.
The conference program kicks off with a group of empowering panelists discussing the theme of “Learn, Laugh, Thrive – A Fulfilling Life.” Attendees will have an opportunity to interact with the speakers and share personal stories with them as well.
The moderator of the discussions will be Maria Christodoulou, BA, MLS, Clinical Herbalist, Founder & CEO Bliss Without Bother.
The program will include the following, who will also discuss aspects of the Conference’s theme: Christina Jones, LCSW Psychotherapist and Consultant; Emmaline Rasmussen, MS,RD, Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Researcher, Founder and CEO at Sound Nutrition, LLC, and Registered Yoga Teacher.
Lynda Tourloukis, Certified Laughter Yoga Master Trainer, and Professional Life Coach, will also be present at the conference as well as Diane Kochilas, Celebrity Chef, Host of PBS Cooking & Travel Series “My Greek Table,” Award Winning Cookbook Author, and owner of the Greek Cooking School in Ikaria.
Attendees are invited to share their stories and interact personally with the panelists. The conference will conclude with a “Laughter Experience Session” by Lynda Tourloukis, a Certified ‘Laughter Yoga’ Master Trainer.
Throughout the day there will be opportunities for networking and for viewing artistic works, books and other items created by an array of artists, authors, and entrepreneurs.
