Archbishop Elpidophoros of America held talks in New York on Thursday with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who was in New York to attend a session the UN General Assembly.

In his remarks, Elpidophoros called on the prime minister to govern with unity in the name of all Greeks throughout the world.

“You are called, as the leading citizen of Greece, to govern in a spirit of unity, brotherhood, philanthropy and understanding.

“Whenever we were united, we wrote golden pages in our history. As the times we were divided, we tasted the sour taste of defeat for our nation,” said the Archbishop.

Mitsotakis, who was accompanied by his wife Mareva on his visit to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, agreed that unity between Greeks is of paramount importance.

“Unity for me is an indispensable precondition for Hellenism to be able again to look at the future with optimism… Unity not just for the Greeks who live in their motherland, but also Hellenism abroad,” he stated.
