President Trump Asks Senate to Approve North Macedonia’s NATO Membership

United States President Donald Trump sent a message to the country’s Senate on Monday requesting its approval of North Macedonia’s accession into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Trump has already approved North Macedonia’s membership in NATO and now the Senate must ratify the decision.

Following the historic Prespa Agreement and Skopje’s decision to change the country’s name to North Macedonia, solving a long-lasting dispute with Greece, the Balkan country is set to become the thirtieth member of the Western military alliance.

Trump’s message to the Senate notes that ”North Macedonia is a steadfast security partner of the United States, and its NATO membership will directly benefit the United States’ strategic interests and the NATO Alliance.”
