Boston College Creates Minor in Ancient Greek

The Classics Department at Boston College announced this week their creation of a Minor in Ancient Greek.

Students minoring in Ancient Greek will take 4-5 courses in the Ancient Greek language and 1-2 courses on Ancient Greek history and culture.

The Department says that the Ancient Greek Minor makes a good complement to majors in Philosophy, Theology, Political Science, History, and Linguistics or for any student with an interest in learning ancient Greek.

Professor Kendra Eshleman, the Chair and Director of Undergraduate Studies in Classics, will oversee the course.

Boston College was founded in 1863 by the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) to educate Boston’s predominantly Irish, Catholic immigrant community. It opened its doors on September 5, 1864, in a building on Harrison Avenue in Boston’s South End, as a “small streetcar college” for commuting students.

The entire Chestnut Hill campus of the private Jesuit research university is now an historic district, featuring distinctive Gothic architecture. The university has 9,300 undergraduate students and more than five thousand graduate students.
