President Donald Trump lauded the ratification and implementation of the Prespa Agreement in letters to Prime Ministers Alexis Tsipras and Zoran Zaev which were published on Wednesday.
Trump described the Prespa Accord as the most historic accomplishment in the Balkans since the Dayton Accord, and praised the leadership of Tsipras and Zaev.
The US President wrote that the leaders’ joint efforts ensure a more stable and prosperous future for their countries and the entire region.
In his letter to Zaev, Trump said that his country will have the place it deserves in NATO as the new nation of “North Macedonia.”
Trump expressed his further hopes that the agreement will also inspire other countries in the Balkan region.
Trump wrote that the agreement underscores that, with political courage and the ability to focus on long-term benefits instead of short-term dangers, leaders can reach difficult but necessary compromises. These compromises are needed in order to lead their countries to a brighter future.
The American President also welcomed the parties’ ratification and implementation of the accord and said that they are both important US allies.
Trump welcomed the fact that “North Macedonia” will be admitted into NATO as its thirtieth member and noted that the Alliance will continue to work to ensure peace and prosperity in the Western Balkans.
