Wife of LA Chargers Owner Alex Spanos Passes Away at 92

Faye and Alexander Panos

The wife of LA Chargers owner Alexander Spanos has passed away at the age of 92, according to a family statement published by the NFL club.

Faye Spanos – a grandmother to 15 children – married Alexander Panos in 1948. “Faye Spanos’ Greek name ‘Fotini’ derives from the Greek word for light. And throughout her life Faye has been the light and rock for Alex and for her family,” the statement read.

Alexander Spanos is a Greek-American billionaire real estate developer and founder of the A. G. Spanos Companies, and the majority owner of the LA Chargers. He founded AG Spanos, one of the country’s largest apartment developers, in 1960. His sons, Dean and Michael, took charge in 2005.

Spanos bought a controlling stake in the Chargers in 1984, run by his grandchildren John and A.G.

The family’s statement added: “As their family grew and their business prospered, Faye shared their good fortune first with their large extended families and then with their community. Faye’s generosity and kindness matched her husband’s, and together they made donations benefiting schools, children, the arts, hospitals, and people in need.”
