Greek NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo is being tipped for MVP this year with the ‘Greek Freak’s’ work ethic and ability to attack as well as defend, cited as reasons for his likely success.
Writing in Wisconsin’s Dairyland Express sports site, journalist Brian Sampson said the Milwaukee Bucks’ player was “after only five seasons in the NBA … already one of the best players in franchise history”.
Listing five reasons for the Athenian’s success, Sampson wrote that his hard work, both-end abilities, and defensive play — in which he “can literally guard anyone and everyone from the smallest and quickest point guard to the biggest center” — set him apart from the crowd.
Despite the media attention on Antetokounmpo, he is “still fresh in the minds of fans and voters thanks to his ever-evolving game”, which reduces his risk of over-exposure. Being a team player also means suffering if the side fails to perform, but with the Bucks’ strengthening their panel for this season, this could catapult Antetokounmpo into the contention for MVP, Sampson added.
