NYC Mayor Hosts Greek Independence Day Reception (video)

Academy award-winning actress Olympia Dukakis is addressing the guests of mayor De Blasio at a Greek Independence Day reception hosted at the Gracie Manson in New York City, March 20.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio hosted the annual Greek Independence Day reception at his residence on Tuesday, acknowledging the huge impact Greek people have made in the City.

De Blasio paid tribute to all “those patriots almost two centuries ago that took on and won an almost-impossible battle”.

Ηe said that America and New York had benefited form their struggle.

“History is teaching [us] that we have to recognize our power, our own ability, to change our circumstances. Those patriots understood it then and created the Greek nation we know today,” he added.

Academy award winner Olympia Dukakis was a special guest at the event and addressed the crowd. Also present were Archbishop Demetrios together with about 200 prominent members of the Greek-American community in New York.

Among the guests was also Anna Maria Fazio, the recently crowned 2018 Miss Greek Independence and other finalists of the competition.

New York has the largest Greek population of any city in America.
