Polys Hajioannou Honored By Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce

Polys Hajioannou, Chairman and CEO of Safe Bulkers, was honored with “the person of the year award” during the the 69th Annual Dinner Dance of the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce. The event that attracted government officials and prominent Greek Americans took place at the Pierre Hotel in New York City on Friday evening.
 

“Mr. Polys Hajioannou is a patriot, a philanthropist and a selfless leader of the shipping industry,” noted HACC Chairman and Atlantic Bank President Nancy Papaioannou.

Polys Hajioannou is the CEO of Safe Bulkers and he has also been Chairman of the board since 2008. He was elected a member of the board of directors of the Union of Greek Shipowners in 2006 and served on the board until February 2009. He is also a founding member of the Union of Cyprus Shipowners and a member of the Lloyd’s Register Hellenic Advisory Committee.

The Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce was formed over 70 years ago for the purpose of promoting and strengthening the economic and cultural ties between the United States of America and Greece.

Beyond its traditional commercial role, the Chamber administered the “George E. Athans Scholarship Fund” and continues to assist in the selection of its recipients.

This year, proceeds of the HACC Gala went to GALILEE, an non-profit organization in Greece providing hospice care to cancer patients.
