Yiannis Varellas, a young man from Thrace in Greece, has made his mission to bring Ancient Greek foods into the mainstream culture.
His company, Olyra, participated recently at the 2017 Expo West, the largest green products show in the US and attracted interest from hundreds of industry people.
“We are a new company, now we are looking in the natural food channels and then we will push our products to mainstream markets,” says the CEO of Olyra, the first ancient Greek foods manufacturer.
The company’s first products are biscuits made with ancient Greek grains mixed with other ingredients the ancients used to consume.
“In the future we plan to get in the drinks market, I believe Melas Zomos will be our next product” says Varellas referring to the ‘black soup’ the Ancient Spartans used to consume as an energy booster.
“We could have established our company in the US, but we want to support as much as we can the land of our ancestors and give back part of the wealth we create,” he says.
