Thanasis Anetokounmpo to Sign with New York Knicks

thanasis-1024x576Another Greek freak could soon be galvanizing the NBA.

Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks player Giannis Antetokounmpos’s older brother, will reportedly complete his move to the New York Knicks this week, possibly even by Thursday evening.

Basketball reporter David Pick first reported the imminent deal in a tweet that cited “league sources.”

The Knicks had drafted Antetokounmpo, a small forward, as the 51st pick during the second round of the 2014 NBA draft. However, the Greek player was not chosen to play for the Knicks and had the option to play abroad or play with the Knicks’s D-League team, the Westchester Knicks. He opted for the latter.

Antetokounmpo is now being offered a partial guarantee, meaning that he will have to prove his worth at the Knicks training camp to secure a position with the team.

NBC explains that “the size of Antetokounmpo’s guarantee will both influence the likelihood he makes the Knicks and protect him in case he doesn’t.”
