White House on IMF Payment: We Expect Greece to Keep Its Commitments

“We’ve long made clear that we expect the Greeks to keep their commitments,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters. “I’d refer you to the IMF for more information about how exactly the Greeks can do that.”

Greece owes the International Monetary Fund a 1.54 billion euro, or $1.71 billion, payment on Tuesday.

Speaking to Greek National Broadcaster (ERT), Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said that if the creditors wanted Greece to pay them, they would have offered Greece a viable agreement.

President Barack Obama, had intervened to Chancellor Angela Merkel saying that Greece needs to stay in the eurozone.
