AKNY–Greece Solidarity Movement in collaboration with SYRIZA NY and Antarsya NY have organized a rally in Astoria, New York, so that the Greek-American community but also American citizens can show their solidarity toward the Greek people and the struggles they are facing. The rally is endorsed by Campaign for Peace and Democracy and Socialist Alternative.
“Stand with the people of Greece for democracy and against the insistence of the Troika on deepening austerity and misery. Bring OXI (NO) placards, banners, etc. to show your solidarity. Greek voters have been called upon to judge the Troika’s proposals in a popular referendum next Sunday. They face a decisive week in the financial and economic crisis that has plagued the country since 2008. The people in Greece are besieged and blackmailed and need a show of international solidarity,” noted the organizing team on the event’s Facebook page.
The rally will take place in Athens Square Park, 30th Avenue at 30th Street, Astoria, Queens, New York City, on July 1 at 6:30 pm.
Furthermore, another rally has been organized in Chicago, outside the Consulate General of Greece, on June 29 at 6:30 pm. “We stand in solidarity with the people of Greece who are demanding their right to self-determination and an end to the austerity assault. We know that their struggle is also our struggle, as we face our own fights against austerity right here in Chicago. We will stand together and say NO to austerity, from Chicago to Greece,” wrote the event organizers.
