Innovative Ideas Exhibition With Positive Message About Greece

GIANYA group of young Greek architects who live, work or study in New York, founded the Greek Institute of Architects in New York (GIANY) and presented their first exhibition at the Greek Consulate General in Manhattan.

The opening ceremony was held on Thursday, February 5. Apart from institute members, the event was also attended by well-known academics, architects and artists of Greek and non-Greek origin, as well as representatives of Greek-American organizations.

“Our goal is to present the work of young Greek architects and develop a dialogue on cultural issues, new ideas and activities between colleagues in Greece and New York,” said Dimitra Tsachrelia, one of the institute’s founding members.

Furthermore, she added that 34 young Greek architects collaborated in order to bring the exhibition to life. Her twin sister, Eirini Tsachrelia, also a founding member and architect, noted that the exhibition includes “multiple architectural dimension levels” and a variety of “original ideas.”

The Consul General of Greece in New York, Georgios Iliopoulos, noted that the exhibition is showing the amazing talent of young Greek people.

According to the founding members, GIANY was established with the purpose of bringing together Greek Architects that live and practice in New York. Through lectures, panel discussions, exhibitions and social events, GIANY plays a central role within the Greek architectural community in New York as a platform for sharing architectural ideas, strengthening its members’ professional voices and acting as a social initiative.
