NBA: Antetokoumpo Wins his First Professional Match in Europe

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks beat the New York Knicks 95-79 in London in the Greek Freak’s first professional match in the European continent.

The starting forward was drafted in 2013 by the Milwaukee Bucks having only participated in Greece’s second division. The semi-amateur club offered Giannis a mere 300 euros a month.

As predicted by Giannis in a pregame interview, Knicks lost their 16th straight. He foresaw the loss and stated that his brother, Thanassis Antetokounmpo, could bring some energy to the audacious Knicks’ team this season if they called him up from the D League in which he’s currently participating.

As far the game went, the NBA’s worst team struggled the same tragic way they have all season, as they started off by missing their first 10 shots – three in a 6-second span – and gave up 14 offensive rebounds, 10 in the first half. The Bucks took a 14-0 lead, were up by 24 in the second quarter and never let New York closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Even after being sidelined for two weeks, Anthony was surprised by New York’s slow start. “It’s just a recurring act. It’s the same thing happening over and over again,” Anthony said. “We’re the only people that can control that.”

Mayo scored 16 points in the first half on 6-of-8 shooting (22 total). Brandon Knight had 20 points and six steals while Giannis Antetokounmpo added 16 points for the Bucks, Khris Middleton had 14 and Zaza Pachulia 11.

Milwaukee has now won six of its last eight games to improve to 21-19. The NY Knicks lost their 26th of 27 games and are an NBA-worst with 5-36.
