Chef Maria Loi Releasing Cookbook, ‘The Greek Diet’

ChefLoiGreekDietGourmet Chef Maria Loi, known as the “Martha Stewart of Greece,” is helping people rediscover the Mediterranean diet of the Ancient Greeks with her new cookbook, The Greek Diet, which hits bookshelves Oct. 7.

Based on the twelve pillar foods – olive oil, yogurt, vegetables, beans, seafood, whole grains, wine, herbs/spices, fruit, coffee/tea, nuts/seeds, and chicken and eggs, The Greek Diet puts these ingredients to good use for a healthy lifestyle and to promote weight management.

The book, released by HarperCollins, was co-authored with former Olympic athlete Sarah Toland. The duo worked together to create a four-week meal plan and a two-week kick start meal plan in an effort to help readers shed pounds and “go Greek” for life. Both Chef Loi and Toland also share narratives; the first part touching on Loi’s experience growing up on a Mediterranean diet (she was born in Thermo, near Nafpaktos), and the second involving Toland’s take on how the pillar foods help with weight loss.

Leading up to the book’s release, Chef Loi, who has cooked at the White House, created the official cookbook for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and whips up dishes on her own television series, “Cooking at Loi,” will please the palate of The Most Powerful Women at Fortune‘s conference taking place from Oct. 6-8 in Laguna Niguel, Calif.
