New York: Concert Dedicated to Greek Composer Manos Hadjidakis

Layout 2On Friday, November 7th at 8:30pm, AKTINA’s Greek Music Journey 2014 continues with yet another memorable concert dedicated to the world renowned and Oscar winning Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis (Never on Sunday) at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, E. 68th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues in Manhattan. The performance will feature Greek star Giannis Savvidakis and orchestra in a unique program highlighting the most well-known and loved songs of Manos Hadjidakis and enhanced with exceptional videos of this amazing composer.

The compositions of Manos Hadjidakis are multi-faceted and they cover almost all representative aspects of the Greek music repertoire. He has composed music and songs for the movies (Greek and foreign), laika (popular folk) and contemporary songs, amazing songs based on poetry by leading and award winning poets such as Odysseas Elytis, Nicos Gatsos among others, as well as classical works. For his important contributions he is regarded among the “pillars” of Greek music of the 20th century.

Giannis Savvidakis, a multi-talented artist who is also a composer and songwriter among other artistic trades, is among the leading Greek singers who is fully equipped artistically to perform Hadjidakis. He excels for his exceptional and gifted voice which has clarity and emotional depth that registers with anyone who hears it (something that Hadjidakis always required from all singers performing his songs). Furthermore, for his distinct ability of bringing together disparate music styles and for his powerful and high energy stage performances both as a singer and a guitarist.

The concert given on the 20th anniversary since Hadjidakis’ passing promises only the very best and it should not be missed!
