Athenians Society of NY Helps Child Welfare in Greece

Athens Municipal CrecheMembers of the historic Athenians Society of New York will be arriving in Greece to offer help to Greek organizations hit by the financial crisis.

“This will be our sixth trip to support organizations and individuals in our country who are facing serious problems,” said society president Panos Adamopoulos, stressing that “to this day, our society has been able to give around forty thousand dollars.”

Adamopoulos also noted that many Greeks are experiencing tough everyday living conditions, and many organizations can no longer continue their work. The society hopes that their effort, along with the help of other clubs and organizations will find more supporters within the Greek American community. “This is the time to support Greece and its people. This is the time that the Greek diaspora must support those in need,” Adamopoulos said.

Furthermore, the Athenians’ Society of New York will be make two donations. On June 4, they will donate a large capacity boiler to the Athens Municipal Creche, and will be presenting a check for 20,000 dollars to the Greek organization Together for Children (Mazi gia to Paidi).

The money for the 10,000 dollar boiler for the creche was raised through a fundraising campaign this year, while the 20,000 dollars for Together for Children was raised at a festival on May 2 at the Consulate General of Greece in New York.
