The Cypriot Emigrants Cultural Organization (CYPRECO) of America invites everyone to an event showcasing a centuries old traditional craft of Cyprus, with free admission and perfectly suitable for the entire family.
The new folk arts program by CYPRECO is dedicated to the Lefkara Lace Embroidery, a craft representative to the island of Cyprus and more specifically to the small mountain village of Lefkara, located 40 km south of the Cypriot city of Larnaka.
This unique program will revive the lace making tradition in the Cypriot village through the screening of an original documentary which highlights and examines the historical development of this craft, its unique designs and techniques. The event will also feature an exhibition of Lefkara embroideries and a live demonstration of the craft by members of the Enosis Lefkariton of America.
The event will be held on March 7 at 8 p.m. at the Stathakion Cultural Center, (22-51 29th St., 11105) in Astoria, NYC. Admission is free, however all seats are numbered and a reservation is preferred. To RSVP to the event call 718-545-1151 or send an email to [email protected] For more information visit http://www.cyprecoofamerica.com.
