State Department: We Can Help Greece with Xeros Case

Christodoulos XerosThe U.S. government is prepared to help Greek authorities locate the fugitive Christodoulos Xeros, stated the Deputy Spokesperson of the State Department, Marie Harf.

In response to a reporter’s question, Harf said that there is great concern in the U.S. as the 55-year-old Greek terrorist remains at large, but she clarified that the U.S. government has not yet been involved in the case. It is still a “Greek responsibility,” however the U.S. government “is ready to help and support Greece if necessary.”

Harf added that Washington is being informed by Greek authorities of any developments in the case. She concluded by saying that “We continue to work closely with Greek authorities in dealing with those who use violence in an effort to achieve their goals.”

Christodoulos Xeros, convicted member of the terrorist organization November 17, disappeared after been granted nine days leave to visit his family. He was serving six consecutive life sentences and 25 years for his involvement in six murders, bombings and robberies carried out by the group November 17.

The Greek Police and Counter-Terrorism Unit raised the alarm when Xeros failed to appear at Kallikrateia police station as scheduled. Police do not think he escaped alone and for this reason are pressuring his family for information. After a nationwide manhunt since January 7, and Xeros’ two page manifesto and video threatening new attacks, the Greek government has offered a 4 million Euro reward for anyone who has information that would lead to his capture.

Christodoulos Xeros is still missing and Greek and foreign governments fear new terrorist attacks.
