Myrto Papadomichelakis Returns to Greece

myrtoOn Saturday 25, 16-year-old Myrto Papadomichelaki is due to return to Greece after seven months of hospitalization in a special rehabilitation center in Boston.

On December 10, Myrto had a special operation and was administered with a powerful muscle relaxant, Baclofen, in order to control painful spastic episodes. Her doctors said that the operation was successful and that Myrto can be discharged and return home.

On Saturday Myrto will return home to Greece with her mother, to be met by her father Giannis and 18-year-old sister Eleanna.

Before Myrto was discharged, her U.S. doctors had a video-conference with Greek doctors of the special center which will take care of her in Greece. They briefed the Greek doctors on Myrto’s condition and jointly determined her future treatment (physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy among others).

Myrto’s return coincides with the beginning of the trial of the Pakistani man, Ahmed Vakas, who on July 22 2012, brutally attacked the young girl on Paros, Greece, where Myrto, her mother and sister were on holiday. The trial will begin next Tuesday in Syros, Greece.

When arrested, Vakas lied about his real age, saying he was 17 in the hope of more lenient treatment. He is currently being held in Grevena, Greece.
