Greek Couple Awarded for Service to Local Military Families

Α couple with origins from Greece, Demitrios “Jimmy” and Elani Zotos, owners of Jimmy the Greek restaurant, were awarded with the “Military Friendly Business of the Year” for their offer to help military families in the area.

Jimmy and Elani were cooperating with organizations like Blue Star Moms and Home for Troops. They used to collect money and donate food while they held raffles to help military families build their homes. What is more, they used to send supplies to the troops.

Jimmy and Elani have spent more than 27 years in the restaurant business. Their restaurant, Jimmy the Greek, is located on Garrisonville Road in Stafford. It was when Elani became a U.S. citizen that they began helping military families.

In their restaurant, Jimmy and Elani offer a 10 percent discount to all military personnel and often purchase meals for military members who eat at Jimmy the Greek. They have also created a special parking space at their restaurant for wounded warriors.

As Elani stated “I love to help. They deserve it. Without the military, we’re nothing. They’re doing so much for our country.”

Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Military Affairs Council recognized the Greek couple’s efforts and decided to honor them with the “Military Friendly Business of the Year” award at the University of Mary Washington.

“We feel very good, very special. It feels very good to be recognized,” stated Jimmy.
