Myrto’s Mother Rejects Money

myrtoThe mother of young Myrto has made a number of shocking allegations concerning the process of fundraising to help in the recovery of her daughter. The 17-year-old girl is currently in a rehabilitation center in Boston, after being brutally attacked in the summer of 2012 by a Pakistani man, while she was on holiday on Paros, Greece with her mother and older sister.

Myrto’s mother has asked the U.S. authorities to investigate fundraising for her daughters recovery, and the amount of 110,000 dollars collected.

“We have requested the intervention of the prosecutor in order to open accounts and see who is telling the truth and who is lying,” she said. She revealed that she has many doubts about the fundraising and added that she believes that a certain amount of money is missing.

“I don’t want any money. I insist on that. I want the money collected to be returned to those who gave it,” said Myrto’s mother.

The Federation of Greek Societies of New England, through its legal representative, claim that they will stand by Myrto and her family and that the money collected will be given to the family after the first receipt for medical expenses.

Myrto’s mother questions the fundraising which was an initiative of a 16-year-old girl. She claims that the girl then tried to use her involvement in setting up the fundraising as a way of enhancing her chances of being accepted by a better university in the U.S. She also reported that many people have exploited her daughter’s condition to make money.
