Concert Dedicated to Greek Children with Cancer

zannisThe award-winning Greek soprano Anastasia Zannis, sent a message of love, solidarity and hope to Greece, singing in a concert at the historical “Carnegie Hall.”

The concert, organized by the Federation of Greek Societies of Greater New York, was dedicated to Archbishop Demetrios of America, and its earnings will be donated to the “Elpida” association for Greek children with cancer. The soprano was warmly applauded by the audience. She sang classical and Greek songs based on the poem’s of Elytis, Seferis and Gatsos. The soprano was accompanied by the Youth Choir of the Archdiocese of America.

Other famous musician’s that participated in the concert were, the soloist Michael Wolf (piano), Dan Brantigan (trumpet), Mike Richmond (bass), Kostas Baltazanis (guitar, instrumentation), Panos Chrisovergis (electronic sounds) and George Maniatis (drums).

The concert was attended by Archbishop Demetrios, the former Foreign Minister and current MP of Nea Dimokratia, Dora Bakoyannis, the president of the International Olympic Academy Isidoros Kouvelos, diplomats from Greece and Cyprus, members of the Greek American community and representatives of cultural institutions.

Petros Galatoulas, the General Secretary of the Federation of Greek Associations of New York, said that Archbishop Demetrios is a “visionary leader of Orthodoxy.” He marked that his charity and social work is a constant source of inspiration for the Greek diaspora.
