Greece in cooperation with other countries continues to work on fighting human trafficking, said the Greek ambassador in the United States, Christos Panagopoulos.

The Greek Embassy in the United States, hosted the annual reception of the charitable organization Capital City Ball, which raises funds to fight human trafficking. The recipients of the funds were awarded to: Courtney’s House, Global Centurion, and Urban Light–all are non-profit organizations based in Washington, and as mentioned earlier, dedicated to the fight against trafficking and human smuggling.

“These three organizations play an important role not only in the U.S. capital, but also worldwide, helping innocent victims and leading culprits to justice, “said Mr. Panagopoulos, adding that “Greece in cooperation with many other countries, continues to work on fighting this terrible problem. I wish you all  success in the various roles you have undertaken.”

Each November, the Capital City Ball organizes an annual dinner to raise money, all of which is given to charity organizations in Washington which work to fight human trafficking. This year’s dinner will take place on November 23 at a restaurant in the city. About four hundred guests attend this dinner every year.

The reception that was held in the Greek embassy is practically a promotional event for the formal dinner. In 2009, the same reception took place at the Embassy of Chile; in 2010 at the Embassy of Liechtenstein, and in 2011 and 2012 at the Embassy of Croatia.
