American energy sources have shown particular interest in the development of the Greek project regarding the exploitation of the country’s mineral wealth.

Reportedly, the American factors are launching later this year, in cooperation with the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Environment, a road show in Houston, Texas. The ministries’ goal is to actually present to American firms the seismic data collected by the Norwegian company Petroleum Geo Services. The Norwegian seismic surveys in the waters of the Ionian islands and Crete showed that these areas are rich in oil and natural gas. Researchers found hydrocarbons in 30% of the samples in a marine area of 225,000 square kilometers.

Meanwhile, Exxon Mobil and Royal Dutch Shell executives went to Athens this week to attend the energy conference.

This project aims at opening a tender for giving maritime the grounds for research in the first six months of 2014. Moreover, PGS has already expressed buying interest and according to information, France’s Total is one of the multinationals who bought the whole data package from PGS for editing purposes. As it seems, international interest in Greece’s energy profile has drawn great attention.
