7th Annual Greek Film Fest in NY

New York City Greek Film FestivalDuring the seventh annual New York City Greek Film Festival, five films will have their first United States screenings  from October 3 to16.

The feature films are: Joy (Hara) directed by Elias Giannakakis, Marjoram (Matzourana) directed by Olga Malea, and The Tree And The Swing (To Dendro Kai I Kounia) directed by Maria Douza.

The documentaries are: Black Box directed by documentary filmmaker Gerasimos Rigas and Naked Hands (Gymna Heria) directed by Giorgis Skevas.

The New York City Greek Film Festival, now in its seventh year, brings the best new films of Greek directors. Despite the huge economic crisis that makes financing films particularly challenging and difficult, the Greek film industry is experiencing an exciting renaissance. Greek films are finding a global audience and are winning prizes at major international film festivals, prompting critics to talk about a “Greek new wave.”
