The President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades expressed the Cypriot Hellenism’s deep gratitude to Archbishop Demetrios of America, during their meeting that took place on the evening of Sept. 24 at the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in Manhattan, New York City.
In his statement after the meeting, Anastasiades expressed his emotions of having the opportunity to meet with Archbishop Demetrios and to express to him his “deep gratitude,” for the support and initiatives that the Greek Orthodox Church took for the benefit of the Cypriots that were tested by the economic crisis. The Cypriot president also noted that he informed Archbishop Demetrios on the current economic situation of Cyprus, but mainly they talked about the national issue.
Finally, he stressed the big interest that Demetrios of America shows and underlined that he wishes to publicly express his gratitude on behalf both of the Cypriot government and of the Cypriot people for the contribution of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America to easing the burden of the suffering Cypriots.
On his part, Archbishop Demetrios of America expressed his deep emotions for the presence of the President of the Cypriot Republic in a historic visit to the Archdiocese of America that took place in an atmosphere of cordiality, honesty, love and respect.
Archbishop Demetrios of America added that his conversation with President Anastasiades inspired him with optimism, that even the longer tunnels have an end and lead to the light, and that the darkest nights are always followed by a bright morning.
