"Drop it" Distinguished at PLURAL+ 2013 Festival

Drop-it

One more Greek film production achieved international distinction, this time at the PLURAL+ 2013 Festival of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The short film Drop it, with main actors young people under 25 years old, was distinguished among 245 nominations from 71 countries and managed to win the UNIVERSAL FORUM OF CULTURES FOUNDATION AWARD. The attribution of the award will take place on October 5 at Paley Center for Media, New York City. The Greek film as well as all the awarded films of the festival will be broadcasted by international networks, in the framework of the UN effort to heighten public awareness against the phenomena of violence and social exclusion.

PLURAL+ aims at supporting dialogue between young people from different cultures, and in the process, at increasing awareness and respect for diversity.

Creative media are such a powerful approach to this dialogue because, fundamentally, they appeal to a sense of shared human experience and common goals.

The insight and creativity with which young people have produced videos on tough issues, such as human trafficking, social marginalization and racism, reflects the energy that youth brings to addressing social problems in today’s world.
