Nasty Gal’s Sophia Amoruso Scores First Book Deal

sophia-amoruso-nasty-galSophia Amoruso, founder of the popular clothing website Nasty Gal, has just signed her first book deal. The Greek-American entrepreneur will release “#GirlBoss: How to Write Your Own Rules While Turning Heads and Turning Profits” this May through the Portfolio and Putnam imprints of Penguin Random House.

The book is described as part memoir, part business advice. In an interview with WWD, the 29-year-old, who is a career role model for many young girls, said she was more “excited to do a business book” than a fashion book, adding, “I came in the back door to running a corporation and being a CEO.”

Nasty Gal launched in 2006 and re-sells trendy clothing online that Amoruso dresses up with her own designs. Named “Fastest Growing Retailer” by INC Magazine in 2012, the company had sales amounting to $128 million that year, with little advertising and nearly no discounting. Instead, Amoruso built a brand on the backs of Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook, and translated “likes” into sales.
