Identical twins Tiffany and Krystle Mataras have been making the rounds at Farmers Markets and shipping their unique desserts nationwide for the last three years. Their company, Wasted Cupcakes, infuses liquor with sweets, and has been steadily growing in popularity since it began in 2010.

The Mataras’ went into business together after taking a break from their acting careers. Born in Athens, Greece and raised in Los Angeles, Calif., the sisters have appeared in commercials, television shows, and films — including “Single White Female” and “Kindergarten Cop” — before they decided to hone their entrepreneurial skills. Their parents owned a Dairy Queen, bakery, ice cream parlor and restaurant in Florida and New Jersey, so it became a family affair when they transitioned into starting their own business.

With the idea to create an array of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cupcakes, ice cream and desserts, Wasted Cupcakes has quickly become an industry favorite among the Hollywood elite, filling the mouths of numerous celebs at red carpet events. Some of their clients include “TMZ,” “Extra TV” (the entertainment program co-hosted by Maria Menounos), and “Dancing with the Stars.” As for other big names they cater to, that’s a secret because the sisters have signed confidentiality agreements with most of their Hollywood clientele.

Their kitchen, located in West Hollywood, allows for pick up, delivery and nationwide shipping through the website, www.wasteddesserts.com. The Ouzo and Chocolate cupcakes, and Metaxa and Orange cupcakes, have been a huge hit with Greek customers.

Currently, the Mataras sisters are in the process of opening their flagship store, Wasted Desserts, in Beverly Hills on Robertson Blvd., and are hoping that a crowd funding campaign will help them achieve the support necessary to get the shop up and running in three months.

“A lot of our clientele comes from Beverly Hills, Century City, Hollywood, and the studios,” say Tiffany and Krystle, which is why they chose the neighborhood to open their first store.

The goal is to raise $5,000 by September 17. And if all goes well, they’re not stopping with just one location.

“Franchises are possible. We already have people calling us up,” the twins added.
