Aktina Productions Inc, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 New York-based cultural organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the rich heritage, folklore and culture of Cyprus and Greece celebrates 20 years of excellence in the arts, culture and public radio broadcasting. The organization concludes its festivities with yet another memorable concert featuring Greek singer and songwriter Lavrentis Machairitsas.
On Thursday, November 7th, Aktina’ s Greek music journey continues with Maxairitsas’ debut performance in the U.S. at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (E. 68th St., between Park & Lexington Aves, New York, NY 10021 – Doors: 7:30pm – Performance: 8pm).
“Enhanced with videos and everlasting hits from Machairitsas’ personal discography over the years, this one of a kind concert was long awaited,” says Aktina President Elena Marouletti.
In this debut performance in the U.S. Lavrentis promises his fans a memorable two our performance which will also pay tribute to great Greek composers such as Mikis Theodorakis with whom Lavrentis has collaborated with and Manos Hadjidakis among others.
Machairitsas will be accompanied by popular singer Dimitra Papiou, the renowned classical guitarist Panagiotis Margaris and orchestra comprised by the acclaimed Greek soloists, Zinovia Arvanitidi, piano/vocals, Akis Amprazis, bass and Filippos Spyropoulos, percussion.
Machairitsas’ contributions to Greek music are immense and span over 3 decades emerged in the late 70’s as a musician, songwriter and singer. During his long and impressive career he has distinguished himself as one of the leading contemporary/folk musicians and songwriters with thousands of fans all over Greece and around the globe.
His career is also highlighted with many recordings and collaborations with leading Greek and International stars. Over 40 renowned Greek stars and over 20 internationally acclaimed stars have collaborated with Machairitsas in recordings, live performances and also performed his songs including the legends: George Dalaras, Maria Farantouri, Dionyssis Savopoulos, Angelo Braduardi, Salvadore Adamo, Tonino Carotone, Christophe, Anne-Catherine Gillet, Bernard Lavillier among many others.
