Composer Spiros Skordilis Passed Away

FOTO_SKORDILHSThe renowned composer, Spiros Skordilis, passed away on June 15 in Tarpon Springs, Florida, at the age of 83.

In recent weeks Skordilis was transferred to the infirmary, because of his state of health. For many years he suffered from cancer, but as stated in the National Herald by his wife Kay Skordili, it seemed the problem had been overcome. Three years ago, he suffered a light stroke, while he had fallen a few times over the last months.

According to information so far, his body will be laid in state this Friday and his funeral will be held on Saturday at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, in the “Greek Village”, Tarpon Springs.

The unforgettable composer, who was particularly admired by Greek-Americans, had three children, two in Greece and one in Florida, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

When he was young, before settling in America, he was married to the great singer Lena Daina, with whom he went to Florida in 1977, where she fell sick and died. A few months ago he was honored by the Pan-Hellenic Center Prometheas of Florida, located in Tarpon Springs.
