State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki, when asked, declined to comment on the issue of Greek public broadcaster’s layoffs.
“We’ve heard no such reports. I am not aware of something specific at this time. Of course, we sure recognize that Greece has been dealing with some hard economic times, and we support Greece and the Greeks who have been struggling with this economic crisis.”
She then went on by saying that “We understand the need for reforms so as Greece becomes more competitive and prosperous in the future.”
In the question whether firing 2,500 people is called reform, Mrs Psaki stated again that she has no specific comments to make.
“I repeat that through this tough economic period, we support Greece over the difficult decisions it is required to take.”
