The name of Vatera Healthcare refers to the name of a village in the island of Lesbos, Greece. Jaharis’ descent is from the village Agia Paraskevi in Lesbos.
New York businessman Jaharis has made a fortune in pharmaceuticals, and given much away to charities and philanthropic ventures, but remains active in his field, as reported in The National Herald.
Some days ago, the Jaharis Family Foundation has announced that it promises to offer a donation of $2 million targeted at hunger and poverty relief, which will address to children and families in Greece that are in urgent need due to the financial crisis.
The announcement was made to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, in honor of His Beautitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece and His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America for their collaboration and efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the people in Greece, according to The National Herald.
The gift will be primarily directed to the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) in order to help develop, sustain and support its Hunger Relief efforts and partnership with Apostoli, the humanitarian affiliate organization of the Archdiocese of Greece, as reported in the American newspaper.
