Brooklyn Honors Greek Independence Day

BruklinThe President of the Borough of Brooklyn, Marty Markowitz, headed a ceremony to mark March 25 as Greek Independence Day, noting the country’s troublesome economic crisis. He has organized the event annually for the last 12 years, and this year finishes his term in office.

Greek-Americans gathered in Brooklyn’s event hall on March 21 to take part in the ceremony that remembered their homeland and honored its residents living in Brooklyn and their accomplishments in the community.

Zoi Koutsoupaki and the Archimandrite Eugene Pappas presented the event as coordinators. After the end of the event, the children of the schools of the region performed traditional Greek dances.
