U.S.A Boosts University of Athens

univesrityThe Administrative Board of the University of Athens decided the establishment of a private non-profit institution in the United States of America, aiming at promoting the institution’s work and finding sponsors.

The Chairman of the Administrative Board of the University, Dimitris Bertsimas  sent a letter to the university community suggesting two annual awards of excellence for professors and scientists. He also suggested the establishment of a new Office of Development within the foundation, which will also provide grants to the university by individuals and organizations in Greece.

Bertsimas said: “The undertaking of these duties comes at a very difficult period for the country, the Greek society and surely for the universities. Hence our responsibilities are great. The funding of universities is in constant decline. However, the University of Athens has eminent and internationally known professors, students of high level and qualified administrative staff.

“Council members are aware that they do not undertake their duties in an institutional gap. Many worthwhile initiatives both by members and by institutions such as the University Senate and the Chancellor have already been undertaken or underway. The Council intends not only to hark but also to assist with all the available means.”
