Greek Yogurt On U.S. School Menus

Greek-YogurtWith the fast-rising popularity of Greek yogurt in the United States, the Department of Agriculture is going to launc a pilot program to introduce the food in American schools.

The Huffington Post reported that Greek yogurt meets health-based standard set by the U.S. Department and may be introduced into the American school canteens as a protein or a meat substitute on the students’ meals. The project is expected to boost a thriving market with rival companies, such as the Greek business FAGE, and the U.S.-based Chobani trying to gain market share.

The pilot program will initially begin in New York schools, and if successful, will be gradually expanded to schools throughout the rest of the country. U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has shown great interest in healthy eating plans for students and has been active in campaigns to promote healthier choices.
