Ambassador Panagopoulos Speaks of Greek and US Relations

Xr._panagopoulosThe Greek Ambassador to the U.S., Christos Panagopoulos, talked to ANA-MPA over the Greek-American relations and the four more years of Obama’s Presidency. He also highlighted that Greece isn’t alone in suffering an economic crisis.

Specifically, when referring to Greek issues during Obama’s first term, he argued that Greek-American relations have developed to the best extent possible. “I would say, mainly over the efforts and sacrifices made by the Greek people so as to cope with this deep economic crisis that has hit our country, that the American support had been in fact constant at all levels of government. And within a particularly difficult global financial environment, that happens to be of great importance,” adding that: “at the same time however, that is during the first four years, I can say that other successes in Greece’s relations with the U.S. had been recorded, as for instance the long-awaited integration of our country in the input program for Greek citizens without a visa in 2010, and for which several foreign ministers had worked.”

Regarding other expectations over the following four years, he said: “Our interest of course, will now focus especially on the economic sector, the tourism flow increase to our country, but at the same time we will focus on attracting U.S. investments because it will be of real benefit for us.”

Panagopoulos also mentioned the role of the Diaspora, which is the real proof of both the timeless friendship and the strong ties between the two countries.
