Christofias Will Speak at U.N. Opening

Cypriot President Demetris Christofias will travel to New York to take part in the United Nations’ 67th General Assembly on Sept. 24. According to the schedule, the Cypriot leader is going to deliver a speech on the General discussion that is going to take place at the opening, while on Sept. 26 he will give an interview to accredited reporters of the UN.

During his stay, Christofias is going to have a series of meetings with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from Greece and Russia, and a private meeting with the UN’s General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon, who is anxious to find a solution to re-unify the island that’s been divided since a Turkish invasion in 1974. Christofias will also meet with the Serbian President of the Assembly and host an honorary dinner for the five permanent members of the UN’s Security Council.
