Kelly Andria’s New Romance Novel a Modern Fairytale

A neurotic gallery owner. An artist making his debut with a phallic show. A chef with a chance to make or break at a ritzy art show. These are just some of the colorful characters that populate The Art of Change, a romantic comedy of errors written by Kelly Andria.

Gallery owner Nellie, a giving yet neurotic New Yorker, brings together a mismatched cast of characters in the opening of Ryan Whittaker’s debut. Little does she know that she is setting the scene for odd and unpredictable relationships, much like Shakespeare in Midsummer Night’s Dream. The frenzied, magical mix-up is an outrageous farce with a deep moral message: “there is a RIGHT place for everyone in this world and love and friendship cement us in it.”

The Art of Change is a funny, smooth reading romance, which deals with bridging differences in gender, education, social milieu, in an insane but pragmatic, modern fairytale, set in New York City. The twists of the plot are written without an ounce of cynicism but simply acknowledging that life is neither here nor there, neither black or white and all can be dealt with in real friendship and love.

Kelly Andria is the pen name of two close Greek-American friends, Kelly Intzides and Vivian Andria who decided to write a story to make people laugh. The authors, although different in many ways and viewpoints, have a lot in common. They come from conservative vibrant families and learned to speak and act as they believe. Fair but always kind. Their passion for art, food and romance led them to become authors of a comedy that redefines the “boy meets girl” norm. The wacky one of the group knew that they had the stories in them. The other half quickly became convinced as their quirky characters took shape and form and gained a voice of their own.

Intzides received a master’s in international relations from Northeastern University andan MFA from Christie’s in New York. After pursuing a wide range of art courses at the Metropolitan Museum with New York University, she was a curator for significant art exhibits in both New York and Athens, while serving as a member of the Contemporary Arts Council of the Museum of Modern Art and the Tate Acquisitions Committee as well. Kelly went on to open 511, her own art gallery in New York City, which is the main inspiration for The Art of Change.

Andria received a joint degree in political science and French literature from Bryn Mawr College and went on to receive a master’s in public health from Yale University. A firm believer in the power of words, Vivian worked with various private medical facilities to develop their communication campaigns.
