Greek-Americans Welcome New Greek PM Antonis Samaras

Messages of support to our new PM Antonis Samaras and the coalition government have arrived from eminent members of the Greek-American community, who note that “Greeks of the Diaspora are here for Greece’s salvation.”

The president and the general secretary of the Federation of the Hellenic Societies in Greater New York, Elias Tsekerides and Petros Galatoulas, respectively, say that “Greek-Americans are expecting from the government of their homeland to work in unity, determination and daring, so that  past practices be combated and Greece be driven to a new era of financial recovery and creativity.”

Regional Coordinator and Alternative President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (S.A.E.) in USA, Theodoros Spyropolos sent his warmest regards to Antonis Samaras, “along with wishes for success in the difficult work undertaken in such a critical moment in the years after the dictatorship in our country.” He also expressed his anticipation for the finding of a solution that will benefit Greek interests and will have positive results for Greek finances and the Greek people. He added that “ensuring critical national matters is also an important factor,” noting that the Greek government will find supportive allies in the Greeks of the US who are deeply concerned about Greece’s situation.

President of the Hellenic American National Council Mr. Paul Kotrotsios notes that “Antonis Samaras and the new government have the obligation to work focused and united so that our homeland overcomes the harsh crisis in the name of  Hellenic history,” a statement made to assure him of the continued, unconditional support of Greek-Americans for Greece.

President of the Cypriot Federation of America, Peter Papanikolaou congratulated Antonis Samaras for taking office and hoped for “close and constructive cooperation aiming at Greece stepping forward.” He also points out that disputes and controversies have to end and “Greece, Cyprus and the Greeks of Diaspora must fight together for economic progress, growth, prosperity and the safety of our national rights.”
