The Public Library of New York honored the co-President and Director of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Andreas Dracopoulos, as well as his wife Katerina, for their financial support of the institute. The honorary awards, according to The National Herald, were given to recognize the Dracopoulos family’s contributions to the Library’s role as a public institution and its expansion efforts.
Andreas Dracopoulos’ close relationship to the New York Public Library city was first established in 2006 up until 201o when Dracopoulos, living in New York, served as a Trustee of the Public Library.
President and CEO of the NYPL, Dr. Anthony Marx, delivered a congratulatory speech praising the actions of the couple in conjunction with the American institution. He also enumerated the various library programs made possible by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s donations. Dr. Marx paid special tribute to recent exhibitions, including the inter-religion exhibition on Judaism, Christianity and Islam, sponsored mostly by Stavros Niarchos.
Andreas and Katerina Dracopoulos expressed their gratidude for this great honor, while Dracopoulos talked about the libraries’ role in modern times and its influence on current culture.
