Poll Says Majority of Greeks in USA Will Avoid Voting in Upcoming Elections

According to an informal public opinion polls published by the Greek American News Agency, only one in 100 Greeks in America will travel to Greece in May for the coming governmental elections.

One of the most revealing findings of the poll suggests that the majority of Greek Americans feels infuriated over the political situation in Greece and its representatives, as expressed in some comments.

“No one will finish the May 6 elections. This is disgusting. It will be just all the same again. How can this be that all these people who pushed Greece over the edge to come out again and ask for the people’s vote and confidence? But the Greeks are also to blame for this because until now, they would vote in favor of their personal profit against the one of their country. Everyone’s to blame.”

Most Greeks in the USA, who are being mostly informed about the Greek situation through the Internet, put the blame on the two leading parties of their country and called on the Greek people to vote against them this time. For some Greek Americans, the biggest part of the responsibility for the current turbulent situation in Greece belongs to eminent but corrupt journalists, editors and politicians who have all acted for their personal gain and condemned the people to yearlong recession.

Utterly disappointed by the Greek political system, their message to the Greek people is to vote very carefully and reasonably.

“Anger is no solution. Neither far-rightists nor far-leftists,” pointed out one Greek American, while another noted that the Greeks must remember the big words of those who ruled the country for the past 38 years and led the country to this hopeless situation.

Most participants of the informal poll came from the Greek neighborhood of Astoria. To them their country’s future is by far more important than bribery, and all political representatives bear the same level of responsibility for the current tragedy tormenting Greece.

More than 200 Greek Americans participated in the Greek American News Agency poll.
