Τhe Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 250 Gallows Hill Road in Westfield, New Jersey, will host a lecture on the Byzantine Empire and its contribution to preserving Western civilization on Friday, February 17, at 19:30 in the Bouras Centre.
The main speaker at the event will be the author and broadcaster Lars Brownworth, who will lecture and discuss his book “Lost to the West”, presenting a historic era that has not been extensively taught in schools, and whose worth for the West is overlooked most of the time.
Mr. Brownworth will deliver a full presentation of the Byzantine Empire, its art, culture and life, and will also share his experiences from visiting Istanbul with the audience.
Mr. Brownworth is a resident assistant for the Smithsonian and a reader at the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library. Ηis new project revolves around a biographical series of the Macedonian emperors in Byzantium. The New York Times have called him an “effective and engaging popularizer” and likened him to Will Durant.
Admission to the lecture is free and refreshments will be served.
